About BRi‑Audio

  • — A Journey of a Technician Devoted to True Original Sound —

Where It All Began: Sensing “Differences” in Sound

Every time I listened to music, I felt something change depending on the playback environment. High‑frequency harmonics disappearing, noise floor shifting, subtle coloration creeping in— those small inconsistencies became the starting point of my pursuit of true original sound.

I didn’t want “processed” audio. I wanted to hear the sound exactly as it was recorded.

ATH‑W5000 — The Headphone That Trained My Ears

After years of searching, the ATH‑W5000 became the headphone that shaped my listening. Its ability to reproduce high‑frequency harmonics without masking or coloration revealed everything:

  • Power supply characteristics

  • DAC coloration

  • Noise floor instability

  • Subtle tonal shifts

Through this headphone, I developed an ear capable of hearing the true nature of equipment. This experience later became the foundation of my design philosophy.

The years of listening to various DACs also played a major role in shaping my ears. Each device revealed a different aspect of “what natural sound truly means.”

  • Burr‑Brown taught me the weight and density of the midrange—the core of the sound.

  • Sigmatel revealed the importance of a quiet noise floor and how silence shapes the music.

  • Wolfson showed both the beauty of natural treble and the unnatural heaviness that can appear in the low frequencies.

  • Cirrus Logic made me aware of “crafted treble”—a brightness and roundness that does not come from the recording itself.

  • ESS demonstrated how strong coloration can appear: forward bass, hard treble, and pronounced harmonic structure.

Listening through these DACs over many years helped me understand, with my own ears, the difference between natural sound and processed sound, and what “transparency” truly means.

Ultimately, I arrived at AKM, not by chance, but because my ears had been trained to seek a DAC that is natural, honest, and free from unnecessary coloration— a DAC whose sound reflects the quality of the power supply itself.

This long journey of listening became one of the foundations of my design philosophy.

MaXiO XD — The Device That Defined My Technical Perspective

The MaXiO XD was a remarkable piece of engineering for its time: Altera FPGA, multiple AKM DAC/ADC chips, and an extremely transparent signal path.

Its sound was astonishingly honest. Every upstream characteristic—good or bad—was revealed without exaggeration.

By using it as a mixer in daily operation, I learned to recognize:

  • The thin “film” of switching power supplies

  • The tonal influence of EMI filters

  • Differences in transformer finishing

  • Noise floor behavior and its impact on transients

Inside the unit, there were no flashy “audiophile” parts— just correct power design and correct DAC/ADC implementation. This device taught me what truly matters in audio engineering.

Design Philosophy: Power Supplies Built for True Original Sound

Years of listening and experimentation led me to a simple conclusion:

  • Power supplies exist to remove coloration

  • Capacitors create the “silence” in which music lives

  • Transformers define harmonic texture

  • EMI filters protect transparency

  • Switching noise always affects micro‑detail

  • Noise floor stability determines clarity and attack

These ideas are not theoretical. They come from real listening, real equipment, and real experience.

BRi‑Audio’s designs are built on this philosophy.

What Shaped Me

LPS Ver.2.2 Board Title

The ATH‑W5000 trained my ears. The MaXiO XD revealed the truth behind audio circuits. Years of hands‑on work refined my understanding of noise, power, and signal integrity.

My goal has always been the same:

To deliver recorded sound exactly as it is.

This belief is the core of every BRi‑Audio design.
